Using the Epson GT 15000 Scanner

The computer running this scanner is in Òdeep freezeÓ.  Any and all changes and files saved to the computer will be removed after the machine is rebooted.  Please make sure to save your files appropriately (H: drive, burn a CD, etc.) or print them out before rebooting the machine or they will be lost.

The auto document feeder attached to the top of the scanner will, along with step 9 below, allow for scanning of multiple items in sequence with little input from the user.  Most scans will be made by simply placing the object to be scanned on the flat image bed, much like a photocopy machine.

If there are any questions about this scanner or help is needed with its operation, please contact Tech Support at:  CCI-TECHSUPPORT (at) listserv.uncc.edu   (Please replace the Ò (at) Ò with the appropriate character.)

1.  The main menu will appear as follows.  The Mode drop down box in the upper right allows three separate main operating menus based on user experience and desired complexity/number of scanning options.

2.  There are several options for the color scale, from ÒrealÓ 24 bit down to simple black and white for scanning documents.

3.  The resolution of images (DPI: dots per inch) can be chosen as well.  The smaller the value, the grainer (or more pixilated) the image will appear.  Note:  The larger DPI settings will not allow for scanning of the full scanner bed size, they are too detailed.  Also, the higher the DPI the longer the scan will take:  sometimes 20 minutes or more!

4.  The Office Mode menu is as follows:

5a.  The Home Mode has still fewer options and will not allow you to fully scan the image until you have run a ÒPreviewÓ scan first.  The Preview scan must be left open until the Scan button has been clicked.

5b.  The Document Type drop down box has several options for scanning which will simply adjust the other options already on the Home Mode menu to a pre-defined state based on which type is picked.

6.  The Preview button will produce a window like this, where the white space is a low-quality version of the image to be scanned.  Resizing can be done here, in order to limit what the scanner will output to a file once a full scan is completed.

9.  Once the Scan button is clicked, there will be a window for various file saving options, including naming conventions for sequential scans – which are especially important if using the attached auto document feeder – and the type of file to save the image as.
