Abstract:



The convergence of maturing technologies gives technologists new opportunities to impact business’s bottom line. Web Sciences, the inter-disciplinary application of once discreet Information Management tools is a powerful tool in the hands of today’s information manager and computer scientists. The lecture and subsequent discussion will describe a Web Sciences approach trace its evolution and describe the manner in which it can be applied to add value in today’s competitive landscape.

 

Bio:

Thomas Kitrick has been working in the Information technology and Financial Services Industry since 1984. In that that role he has worked at Goldman Sachs, Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch and Wachovia Bank. Currently he is Director of Knowledge Management of TIAA-CREF in Charlotte North Carolina.

 

In 1994 he was part of the initial project team that launched firstunion.com, the third banking web site on the Internet. Since 1998 he has focused on portal, search and taxonomy management projects that help organizations mine and deliver critical internal information to improve efficiency and customer service.

 

Dr. Kitrick has been a member of the adjunct faculty of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte since 1999. He is a member of the Software and Information Systems department where he has taught classes in Knowledge Management, Portal Development and IT Project Management. During that time he has sponsored 4 PhD candidates, 5 summer interns and hired 4 UNCC grades.
