The Charlotte Metro Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) Chapter proudly announces an undergraduate scholarship and a graduate scholarship for outstanding UNC Charlotte students in the Department of Software and Information Systems. This is the first ISSA sponsored scholarship in the nation, which will support future Information Security Professionals. Each applicant must be a student pursuing a career in information security and privacy and must be an active, full-time UNC Charlotte undergraduate or graduate student (including the Information Security certificate program). The applicant must fulfill the eligibility requirements below as established by the Scholarship Committee. This scholarship is for the amount of $3000.00 and is valid for tuition and fees during the 2008-2009 academic year.
Eligibility Criteria
Each student must:
Have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, averaged over all institutions attended.
Be a full-time undergraduate or full-time graduate student at UNC Charlotte in a degree program within the Department of Software and Information Systems (including the Information Security & Privacy graduate certificate).
Be classified as a Sophomore, Junior or Senior or enrolled in a Graduate program as of the first semester in which they receive this award (Fall 2008).
Demonstrate financial need.
Communicate their interest in full-time work as an information security professional in an essay of no more than 500 words.
Be a permanent resident of North Carolina. Preference will be given to residents of the Charlotte-metro area (Mecklenburg and the immediately surrounding counties).
Demonstrate leadership or active participation in a UNC Charlotte organization or service within an organization outside UNC Charlotte.
Each applicant must submit a completed application including the essay, at least two letters of recommendation (one from a faculty member, one from an organization member), and transcripts of each institution attended other than UNC Charlotte. All scholarship applications and other required information must be submitted to the department office in Woodward 341 no later than 5:00 p.m. on February 12, 2008. Final candidates may be asked to participate in a thirty minute interview.
Selection will be determined by a committee consisting of department faculty who will evaluate all materials submitted. An ISSA member may participate in the evaluation.
